REQUIREMENTS FOR FILMS
All submissions must be in format as a DVD. The due date for films is September 10, 2009. To make a submission, send a message to epic@epicsummer.org entitled “Film Submission.” Include your name, the title of your film and a brief description. We will contact you to arrange a pickup of your film.
What types of films are featured?
Films shown at the festival are more or less of one of two types: Outdoor Adventure Documentaries and Humanitarian Service Films. Thus far, films have included canyoneering (Euro Style), mountain biking in Bolivia, backpacking in the Wind Rivers, interpretive cliff diving, barehanded fishing, repelling over Calf Creek Falls, climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro and distributing medical supplies in Kenya.
What is the max and min length for films?
The maximum length for a film is 20 minutes; however, with the focus on shorter, higher caliber films it is likely that only one film of this length will be shown. Shorter films in the range of 5 to 10 minutes are more likely to be featured. The minimum length for films is 20 seconds-this in keeping with last year’s highly entertaining 23-second film on sailing.
How many films will be selected and who will make the selection?
From about 5 to 10 films will be selected in order to keep the overall viewing time to no longer than 1 and 1/2 hours. A small panel made up of organizers and accomplished film makers will review all films and make the selection.
What are the elements of an EPIC SUMMER film?
An EPIC SUMMER film most likely to be chosen is one which includes: thrilling footage and amazing tales of adventure, breathtaking photography, fun entertainment, belly-laugh humor, risk and danger and inspiring stories of humanitarian service.
